Learn more about the missionaries our church supports!
James and Christine Kelly: Thailand
James (Jim) and Christine Kelly have been serving in ministry for over 30 years, including in Canada, Kenya, India, and more recently Thailand. Statistics say that 94 percent of the population of Thailand is Buddist; the people of Thailand are some of the least reaches people in terms of the Gospel, which is what makes Jim and Christine’s ministry so important! Jim and Christine serve mainly by equipping Southeast Asian (especially Thai church leaders) with a concrete understanding of the Word of God, allowing for these leaders to make disciples and serve their communities well.
Austin and Shivani Schulz: Philippines
Austin and Shivani Schulz have been serving in full time ministry around the world since 2017, though for the last 5 years the two of them (along with their daughter Asia) have been full-time missionaries in The Philippines. With their team in the Philippines, they lead a number of different initiatives that share the Gospel through digital outreach, dental care, sports (including their organization ‘Origins Basketball’) and education. This coming year, they are focusing on training more local leaders and creating new community partnerships to bring the Gospel to thousands more across The Philippines and beyond.
Gary and Kathy Heinrichs: Latin America, Costa Rica + The Caribbean
Gary and Kathy started their ministry by serving churches in British Columbia and Alberta, but after attending language school in Costa Rica, the two felt God calling them to pastor the people of Mexico, and then later Costa Rica. Gary and Kathy’s main role in the ministry is to train pastors, which is how they gained their title of “Pastors to the Pastors,”. Many pastors in Costa Rica have very limited access to biblical education-some have no formal education, while others have been trying to complete their degrees over the course of the last 10-20 years, so Gary and Kathy’s misson is to help equip these pastors with resources and training to help these pastors feel better prepares to lead people.
Adam and Luba Nickel: Ukraine
Adam, originally from Abbotsford, felt called to serve full time in Ukraine after several short term missions trips to Ukraine. Adam moved to Ukraine in 2007, and that is where he met his wife Luba, who was already serving on a ministry team in Ukraine. Now 19 years later, Adam and Luba (along with their kids, Tima & Dominika) work with graduate orphans, young orphan moms and young families to lead Bible programs, help with food and medicine, and other needs that arise. They are also working in the church they helped plant, leading worship, kids programs, youth groups, summer camps, and upkeep of their ministry center.
Chris Hyslop: Youth for Christ Abbotsford
Chris Hyslop serves in Abbotsford, mainly working with young people and families. With his team, Chris runs actives for kids monthly during the school year, and during the summer the teams run actives weekly. Chris leads the Tuesday Night Truck Team (a ministry that builds relationships with young people and families) and he also serves as the coordinator for the Truck Mobile Drop-in Centre. Additionally, Christ serves in local high school’s metal and wood shops, making connections with kids through games.
